Group to open two cancer care facilities
MVHOA is affiliated with US Oncology, one of the nation's largest cancer treatment and research networks.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The physicians of Mahoning Valley Hematology-Oncology Associates say they will open a community cancer care center with two locations in the Youngstown and Warren areas in May.
The group of physicians intends to continue collaboration with Forum Health hospitals here and in Warren, while also expanding that relationship to other health care providers in Youngstown and surrounding markets, said Dr. Chris A. Knight, a medical oncologist with the five-physician group.
"It's important in cancer care for physicians and hospitals to work together. By opening offices in two locations, we'll ensure that our patients have a choice among all of the hospitals in Mahoning Valley," Dr. Knight said.
MVHOA is opening the center with the support of US Oncology, one of the nation's largest cancer treatment and research networks.
"By joining these physicians in the network, we're opening the door for our patients to benefit from the shared expertise of nearly 1,000 other oncologists around the country, resulting in high quality cancer care in a community setting," Dr. Knight said.
Another advantage of the US Oncology affiliation for MVHOA patients is an increased opportunity to participate in clinical research trials for the newest cancer treatments. US Oncology and its research network participated in the clinical research trials of 23 of the last 29 cancer drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
In addition to Dr. Knight, MVHOA physicians are Dr. William G. Reeves; Dr. Lori C. Hemrock; Dr. Masud R. Bhatti; and Dr. Eugene F. Tareshawty.
Each office will provide medical oncology, clinical hematology, chemotherapy, laboratory services, cancer screening, clinical trials, patient support and pharmacy services.
