Man charged with assault and having drugs

BOARDMAN -- A South Avenue man faces assault and drug possession charges after two women reported he had attacked both of them in his apartment.
The victims, a 19-year-old North Lima woman and a 19-year-old Deerfield, Ohio, woman, told police the assaults occurred around 3 a.m. Monday when Geoffrey A. Cowher, 25, became angry with the Deerfield woman, who told police she was Cowher's girlfriend.
The victim said Cowher slammed her head onto floor and knocked her unconscious. The second woman said she tried to intervene and Cowher punched her, causing injuries to her upper lip.
Police said they took the pair back to the apartment to pick up their possessions and found Cowher there. He was arrested on two counts of assault, and police said they found suspected marijuana in the pocket of his coat. He was released on bond Monday and then arraigned today in Mahoning County Court here.
