YOUNGSTOWN — A 16-year-old Lucius Avenue teen has been indicted on a charge of complicity to aggravated murder in the July 8 shooting death of a man set to testify in his brother’s killing.
Johnathan A. Dent, 16, was indicted on the complicity charge and a firearm specification in the death of William “Mike” Burr, 27, of Struthers, who was gunned down in front of Angelo’s Pizza on the South Side.
Burr was set to testify at the trial concerning the December shooting death of his brother, Anthony Perez, 31. Perez was shot to death while he and Burr were detailing a car on Clearmount Avenue.
Burr’s widow said she believed her husband was killed because of his ability to identify four men involved in the Perez killing.
Dion D. Weatherspoon, 19, of Hilton Avenue also is charged in the killing. Police have identified Weatherspoon and Dent as members of a South Side gang called the L-Unit. Weatherspoon is set to go on trial in March.
If convicted, Dent could serve 20, 25 or 30 years to life in prison, plus additional time for the gun specification.
Brothers Darrin Davis, 18, and Reshaud M. Biggs, 21, both of East Florida Avenue, are charged with Perez’s murder. Davis and Biggs are set for trial in February.
In another case, a Portage County man, Michael Skidmore, 35, of Wayland Road, Diamond, was indicted on three charges of rape that could carry a life sentence upon conviction, three counts of rape and six counts of gross sexual imposition.
Skidmore’s indictment says he is accused of committing crimes against a girl between November 2000 and November 2006. The girl was 11 years old when the crimes are reported to have begun.
In another case, three Youngstown men have been indicted on a charge of felonious assault in the kicking and hitting of a 54-year-old man with pool sticks and their fists at the Pit Stop Bar, 1564 Logan Ave., on Oct. 26.
Michael A. Crytzer, 33, and Jason R. Hagens, 24, both of 41 Baldwin St., and Ryan S. Crytzer, 24, of 29 McGuffey Road, were indicted in the assault.
Witnesses told police they saw the men assault Jimmy L. Smith of Park Avenue, Youngstown. Police officers arrived at the bar at about 10:50 p.m. to see the three men leaving. A bartender shouted that the men should be arrested because they’d just beaten a man inside.
Officers found Smith on the floor bleeding from his head and face. Smith told officers the men had kicked him and punched him in the parking lot and later hit him with pool sticks and ash trays inside the bar.
