Man wounded by gunfire faces charge

WARREN – A 20-year-old Warren man wounded by gunfire while attempting to steal a car has been charged by police.

Sir Michael Cox Jr. appeared Wednesday before municipal Judge Thomas Gysegem on a charge of felonious assault. He is in the county jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear April 19 for a preliminary hearing.

A 55-year-old Youngstown Road man reported to police that three men, one with a gun, opened fire at him in his driveway and tried to steal his car. The victim, who has a conceal-carry permit, returned fire and struck Cox.

Police declined to say what part of Cox’ body was wounded. He was treated at St. Joseph Health Center.
