Scrappers split with Auburn to end season

Mahoning Valley ended with a 40-36 record.
AUBURN, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers closed out the regular season Thursday with a doubleheader split against the Auburn Doubledays.
The Scrappers won the opener, 2-0, behind Josh Tomlin's six shutout innings. He improved to 8-2 on the year.
Neal Wagner struck out the side in the seventh for his 17th save.
Cirillo Cumberbatch provided all the offense, with his 3rd home run of the year in the second inning.
Auburn dominated the nightcap, scoring three times in the second and fifth innings en route to a 6-0 victory.
Luis Valdez allowed six runs over 42/3 innings for the Scrappers. His record fell to 7-5.
Mahoning Valley was held to two infield hits, by Evandy De Leon and Joshua Roberts.
The Scrappers finished the regular season with a 40-36 record, while Auburn won the Pinckney Division championship with a 42-32 record.
