Baby Suri, cover girl
NEW YORK -- With a cherubic face and a shock of dark hair, Suri Cruise -- subject of the world's most anticipated baby photo -- made her debut Wednesday on the cover of Vanity Fair. The magazine's 22-page spread of 41/2-month-old Suri and her famous parents, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, includes photos taken by Annie Leibovitz for the October issue, on newsstands in New York and Los Angeles and nationwide on Sept. 12. The cover photo shows Suri peeking out of a jacket worn by Cruise with Holmes looking on. Born April 18, Suri had not previously appeared in any published photos, prompting some public speculation about her very existence.
Couric's debut givesCBS a ratings boost
NEW YORK -- Katie Couric was a hit as "CBS Evening News" anchor -- at least on the first night. The ratings for her initial broadcast Tuesday were 86 percent above what CBS averaged on the same day last year, according to a preliminary measurement of the nation's 55 biggest markets by Nielsen Media Research. CBS had a 9.1 rating and 17 share in those markets, compared with the 5.7 rating and 11 share for ABC's "World News" and 5.3 rating and 10 share for NBC's "Nightly News," Nielsen said. A ratings point represents 1,102,000 households, or 1 percent of the nation's estimated 110.2 million TV homes. The share is the percentage of in-use televisions tuned to a given show.
