Buckeye Buzz: Ohio State football

Published: Tue, September 5, 2006 @ 12:00 a.m.

Buckeyes invasion: The Austin chapter of the Ohio State Alumni Association estimates that 35,000 to 40,000 Buckeyes fans are coming to town for Saturday night's showdown against host Texas. Very, very few have tickets. Ticket brokers are selling tickets with an $85 face value for $450 to $3,000.

Still stewing: Ohio State center Doug Datish of Howland, reflecting on last year's 25-22 loss to Texas: "I'm not sure we deserved to win."

Just numbers: The Longhorns have won their last 21 games. ... Five true freshmen played in Ohio State's 35-12 victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday. ... In case you're thinking of driving to the game, it's 1,067 miles from Columbus to Austin. Take along some energy drinks. ... TB Antonio Pittman had 111 yards on 19 carries in the opener, giving him seven 100-yard games in his past 10 starts. ... Ohio State has lost its road opener by a score of 17-10 in two of the last three years. ... The Buckeyes' final 11 opponents won Saturday except for Bowling Green, which lost to Wisconsin 35-14.

Once an Ohioan: Northern Illinois coach Joe Novak, an Ohio native, after his team's loss to the Buckeyes: "I told Jim [Tressel] that I hope they go all the way. Go Bucks!"
