Project Opportunity seeks volunteers

Published: Sat, September 2, 2006 @ 12:00 a.m.

BOARDMAN -- Project Opportunity, a volunteer adult literacy program serving the greater Mahoning Valley, is looking for some volunteers.

The program, sponsored by Youngstown City Schools Adult Basic and Literacy Education, is offering a free tutor-training workshop for those willing to help adults learn to read.

It will be a two-part workshop focusing on the use of the Laubach Literacy Way to Read method.

The sessions will be at Boardman Library, 7680 Glenwood Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 7.

A volunteer commitment is usually from one to three hours per week, and the volunteers are matched to work one-on-one with adults having limited reading skills.

To register for the workshop, call Project Opportunity at (330) 965-1787, Ext. 128, or the ABLE office at (330) 744-8715.
