Jackson-Milton tops Mathews in Div. IV district semis

The Bluejays will meet St. Thomas Aquinas, which defeated Lordstown.

LISBON -- Alyssa Chine scored 26 points, with 11 aces and 10 kills, leading Jackson-Milton High to a 25-21, 25-16, 19-25, 16-25, 15-8 victory over Mathews in a Division IV district semifinal volleyball match Tuesday in Lisbon High School's gymnasium.

Katie Gettman had 24 assists and 55 sets for the Bluejays (18-6). Scarlett Chepke had 10 kills and five blocks.

Jenna Manz led the Mustangs (20-5) with 11 points, 19 assists and five aces. Tilly Dickerson had eight kills and six blocks and Karen Pilati had seven digs.

St. Thomas 25-19-20-25-15,Lordstown 17-25-25-22-11

LISBON -- Julianne DeChellis scored 15 points to pace the Knights (13-11). Rachel Drakulich had 14 digs and three aces and Steph Chirumbolo had 32 assists.

Karly Gibbs led the Red Devils (21-3) with 20 assists and 63 sets. Megan Gibson scored 24 points, with 21 kills, 24 blocks and four aces.

Salem 25-25-25, Crestwood 21-19-22

BOARDMAN -- The win streak keeps going as Taylor Toothman scored 13 points, with two aces and 40 assists for the Quakers (24-0) in the Division II district semifinal in the Boardman High gymnasium.

Katie Scullion added 10 points, 10 kills and two aces and Amy Scullion had 13 kills and five blocks.

Erica Zigman led Crestwood (20-4) with five points, two aces, 14 digs, 10 assists and nine kills. Jessica Cowan had 12 assists, eight kills and eight digs.

Hubbard 25-25-25, Southeast 20-11-19

BOARDMAN -- Lauren Ferguson had nine points, three aces and 41 assists for the Eagles (22-3) in another semifinal match. Sophie Paddock added seven points, 11 kills and six blocks and Maggie Bogdan had 13 kills.

Karla Carson led the Pirates (21-4) with five points. Kelsey Hill had four points, 27 assists and a assist and Jennifer Gahagan had 16 kills and two aces.

Salem will take on Hubbard for the district title Thursday at Boardman High at 6 p.m.

Boardman, Fitch lose

STOW -- The Boardman High girls volleyball team was eliminated by Stow 22-25, 25-16, 24-26, 25-13, 15-10 in the Division I district semifinal match Tuesday at Stow High School.

Fitch was eliminated by Hudson 25-20, 25-22, 25-22.

Girard, Crestview advance

SALEM -- It will be top-seeded Girard going against second-seeded Crestview in the Division III district volleyball championship match in Salem High School's gym Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Indians (22-3) eliminated United (13-9) 25-12, 25-8, 25-22 in the semifinals, while Crestview ended Waterloo's season 25-20, 25-20 and 25-17.
