STRUTHERS -- A preliminary hearing on an aggravated-arson charge is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Friday in municipal court for Kerry D. Leatherman, 50, of Sheridan Road, Youngstown.
Police have accused Leatherman of starting a fire Saturday night at Professional Exposure Color Lab Limited, 329 Elm St. The business is owned by Renee Scheetz, his former girlfriend, police reports say.
The business is in a small strip plaza, which contains two businesses on the first floor and apartments on the second floor.
The fire, reported at 9 p.m. by residents of one of the apartments, damaged the rear room of the business on the east side of the building.
Firefighters forced open the door and extinguished the fire, which they said started below the mail slot on the floor inside. No injuries were reported. The dollar value of the fire damage is undetermined, officials said.
Youngstown police arrested Leatherman at his residence later Saturday night. He was arraigned Monday afternoon in Struthers Municipal Court, where bond was set at 150,000. Struthers police said Leatherman would be returned to the Mahoning County jail until his preliminary hearing.
Witnesses told police Leatherman has been seen around the business several times in the last few days. The victim's sister said Scheetz had been hiding from him "in fear for her life."
