Sixth-grade girl faces panic charge in bomb threat

Published: Mon, October 23, 2006 @ 12:00 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Another girl at West Side Upper Elementary School has been charged with inducing panic after discovery of a bomb threat this morning scribbled on a wall in the girls' bathroom, said Ted Terlesky, chief of schools' security.

The sixth-grade girl was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center. Last week, four sixth-grade girls at the school were charged with inducing panic and taken to JJC after discovery of a bomb threat on the bathroom wall.

Also today, four boys suspected of calling in a bomb threat to the Alpha School of Excellence For Boys on Hillman Street were charged with inducing panic and taken to JJC, Terlesky said.

The boys, two sixth- and one seventh-grader at the school, made the call from a pay phone on Market Street, he said. Neither West Side Upper Elementary or Alpha were evacuated, he said. Today's threat at Alpha is unrelated to bomb threats made previously by a boy using a cell phone and disguising his voice, Terlesky said.
