Ritzler scores winner in OT

Ursuline, Lakeview, Champion and Mooney posted blowout victories.

MECCA -- Carrie Ritzler netted the game-winning goal with six minutes remaining in the second overtime Monday as the Springfield High girls soccer team defeated Maplewood, 3-2, in the Division II sectional opener.

The game was tied at the end of regulation and after the first 15-minute overtime session.

Sophomore Breanne Mincher assisted on the goal by Ritzler, a junior. Ritzler had an earlier goal and Amber Uscianowski had the other tally for Springfield (8-9).

Tori Spencer and Michelle Sloan scored the goals for Maplewood (10-6).

Bonnie Clute made nine saves for Maplewood while Springfield's Courtney Paulin made eight saves.

Ursuline 8, United 0

STRUTHERS -- Junior forward Hannah Snyder scored five goals as the Ursuline High girls soccer team eliminated United.

Junior forward Kaitlyn Tondo-Steele scored three goals for the Irish (7-7-2).

The score was 3-0 at halftime on Snyder's two goals and one by Steele.

Senior goalkeeper Jolanta Carkido made one save for Ursuline while A. Cross made 21 stops for United (1-14).

Champion 9, Liberty 0

CHAMPION -- Heather Beachy had four goals, Ashley Rable had two tallies and Jessica Craley, Jessica Bennett and Brittany Skeels had one point apiece for Champion (10-6-1).

Becca House had 17 saves for Liberty (0-17) while Champion goalkeeper Beth Sayers registered her 11th shutout.

Ursuline plays at Champion in a sectional final on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Warren JFK 7,Youngstown Christian 3

WARREN -- Jerrica Cooper scored twice in the first 12 minutes to lead Warren JFK (10-6-1).

Also scoring for Warren JFK were Jaclyn Kolovich and Roxy Hoerig with two goals and Kellie Kovac with one.

Hoerig had two assists and Jacci Roberts each had two assists while Katie Rupinsky and Mel Esposito had one. Goalkeeper Jacqee Lombardi made two saves.

For Youngstown Christian (8-8-1), Kristi Cooper, Alyssa Rojos and Kara Cooper scored goals. Kristi Cooper had two assists. Goalkeepers Amanda Vestal and Kathy Wengerd combined for 16 saves.

Lakeview 7, Bristol 1

CORTLAND -- Nikki Bevilacqua scored four goals to lead Lakeview.

The Bulldogs (14-1-2) advance to play Thursday at 4 p.m. at Lakeview against the winner of Badger-Conneaut game.

Carly Schordas chipped in with one goal and two assists for Lakeview while Mandy Pishotti and Megan Tharnas each had one goal and Jen Baker one assist.

Goalkeeper Hallie Danielle Heckman made seven saves.

Mooney 14,Pymatuning Valley 0

STRUTHERS -- Katie Griswold, Ashley Cuba and Kara Joseph each scored three goals for the state-ranked Cardinals (12-2-1). Cassie Trgovich scored two goals while Vickie Dreiling, Alex Sierra and Allie Herschel each had one.

Pymatuning Valley (1-16) goalkeeper Jillee Clute made 16 saves.

Newton Falls 2, Southeast 1

RAVENNA -- Lauren Mauric and Caitlin Martin each scored a goal in the second half to rally Newton Falls from a 1-0 halftime deficit in a sectional tournament game. Martin scored the game-winner.

Desi Lemmon had an assist for the Tigers (5-11-1) while goalkeeper Rebecca Humberger had nine saves.

Newton Falls advanced to play Chagrin Falls on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Chagrin Falls.

For Southeast, Danielle Kaley had the goal while goalkeeper Teresa Strebler made five saves.
