NORTH LIMA -- The new Sparkle Market on Western Reserve Road will open Thursday, but company owners are already looking at adding more stores.
Village Sparkle Market Inc. is negotiating on a site for another grocery store and hopes to have it open by the end of 2007 or early 2008, said Vince Furrie Jr., one of the partners in the Columbiana-based company.
He declined to identify the site, other than to say it would be in the Mahoning Valley.
Furrie said the company's long-term goals are to add three or four more stores so that its overhead costs can be spread out over more stores.
The Beaver Township site was selected for the new store because of the housing developments being built in the area, he said. While the area is growing, it doesn't have enough population to attract a large grocery store chain, he said.
The new store is its first new building for Village Sparkle since its Columbiana store was built in 1978. The company also owns stores in Salem, Cornersburg and Lisbon.
About the store
The new store, named Western Reserve Sparkle Market, will have 38,000 square feet and will be the anchor of a 42,000-square-foot plaza to be built at the site.
The grocery store will feature a floral shop, bakery, deli, pharmacy and dry cleaning service. The store, which will employ 100, will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The store's grand opening events will begin Oct. 26. Prize drawings will be held daily.
Sparkle is an affiliation of 24 grocery stores in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
