Beckers' 50th is celebrated in Pittsburgh
PULASKI, Pa. -- The Grand Concourse Restaurant in Pittsburgh was the setting Sept. 13 as Mr. and Mrs. James Becker, 536 state Route 208, were honored by family members as they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Hosts for the event were their son, James Becker Jr., their granddaughter, Jacquelynn Becker, and their grandson, James Becker III, all of West Middlesex, Pa. Their other son, George Becker, lives in Tampa Bay, Fla.
The former Stena Krauss and Mr. Becker were united in marriage on Sept. 13, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Youngstown.
Mrs. Becker retired in 1999 as vice president of Mahoning National Bank in Youngstown. She was the first woman to be named to the board of directors of Boardman Civic Association, and served in every office, including president.
She was a board member and past officer with Boardman Plaza Merchants Association and a member of the Board of the Private Industry Council. She conducted workshops for Senior Corps of Retired Executives and taught economics to seventh graders as a volunteer for Junior Achievement.
She serves on the board and is finance committee chairperson for Alzheimer's Disease Memory Walk, Youngstown Chapter. She has also done volunteer work for Tod Children's Hospital Telethon, Health-O-Rama at Southern Park Mall, Career Day at Springfield Local Schools and Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce membership drives. She was the 1995 YWCA Woman of the Year.
Mr. Becker was a local stock car champion in the 1960s and retired in 1982 as a craneman with LTV Steel Corp.
