Austintown Rotary Club names slate of officers
AUSTINTOWN -- Officers who will serve from July 2006 until June 2007 were elected by Austintown Rotary Club during a meeting held April 1.
Named to head the organization were Gary Reel, president; Karl Rein, president-elect; Brian Laraway, secretary; David Buttar, treasurer; Robin Stock, international service; Jeanne Yeager, vocational service; Chad Schenker, community service; and Mike Cafaro, club service.
Reel was born in Austintown and attended the old Fitch High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in education and his master's in secondary history at Youngstown State University, and taught at the Austintown and Frank Ohl middle schools. In 1986 he began teaching economics and honors history at Austintown Fitch High School, where he was an Interact and National Honor Society adviser.
Since 1999 he has been a supervisor of student teachers at YSU and is a certified Praxis III evaluator for first-year teachers.
Reel has served the Rotary Club as community service chairman for five years and is a Paul Harris Fellow and 10 Star Rotarian.
Reel is a trustee, choir member, Sunday school teacher and council president with Smith Corners United Methodist Church. He has been a 4-H volunteer for 40 years and is active in Dublin Grange of Canfield, Canfield Community Concert Band, Civil War Roundtable of Mahoning Valley and World War II Heritage Group. He has also served as a tour guide for students for the past 27 years and has been involved with People to People.
Reel and his wife, Sandie, have five children and three grandchildren.
