Zoning board OKs billboard construction

MINERAL RIDGE--The Weathersfield Township Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously approved construction of a billboard Thursday in McKinley Heights.
It granted a conditional-use permit to America Outdoor Media to construct the billboard at 60 Youngstown-Warren Road.
Zoning inspector Sherri Craver said that the property where the sign will be built is on land owned by James Coates, next to his do-it-yourself carwash on the west side of the road, which is also U.S. Route 422.
The company will have a 10-year contract with Coates to have the sign on his property.
The billboard's face will be made of vinyl rather than paper, Craver said, and the company must apply for a permit with the state before it can erect the sign, on which it will rent space.
Under township zoning law, billboards must meet conditional-use requirements and be approved by the zoning board.
