PHILADELPHIA -- Simon Gagne scored in a sudden-death shootout after Freddy Meyer tied it with 0.2 seconds remaining in regulation, leading Philadelphia over league-leading Carolina. Peter Forsberg scored to extend the shootout and R.J. Umberger had a goal in regulation for Philadelphia, which has won consecutive games in shootouts following a four-game losing streak. Ray Whitney and Justin Williams scored for the Hurricanes, who had their five-game win streak snapped.
Thrashers 3, Rangers 2, SO
ATLANTA -- Marian Hossa scored in the shootout to give Atlanta its their third straight win in extra time. The Thrashers have won seven of nine games to close within one point of the Montreal for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. New York has lost three straight since a seven-game winning streak. In regulation, Jaromir Jagr scored his NHL-leading 43rd goal for the Rangers, while Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk notched his 40th. Serge Aubin gave Atlanta a 2-1 lead, and Thomas Pock tied it with his first goal of the season for New York.
Panthers 6, Senators 2
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Jozef Stumpel and Nathan Horton scored two goals apiece and Florida snapped a an eight-game home losing streak to Ottawa. Martin Gelinas and Rostislav Olesz also scored for the Panthers, and Roberto Luongo had 33 saves to help the Panthers snap a three-game losing streak overall. Peter Schaefer and Antoine Vermette scored for Ottawa and Ray Emery had 32 saves. The loss broke the Senators' five-game winning streak and was Emery's first defeat in five consecutive starts.
