VICE PRESIDENTIAL VISIT: The congressional campaign of state Rep. Charles Blasdel is bringing a big gun to town.
Vice President Dick Cheney is scheduled to attend a March 20 fundraiser for Blasdel, an East Liverpool Republican running for the 6th Congressional District seat, several local GOP leaders say.
Blasdel's campaign referred questions about Cheney's visit to the White House. Officials there couldn't be reached to comment.
Tickets for the event begin at $150, but those who attend are expected to give much more than that amount.
The fundraiser will be held at the Spread Eagle Tavern and Inn in Hanover. The president of the historic restaurant is David Johnson, one of the area's most prominent Republicans and the honorary general chairman of Blasdel's congressional campaign.
A recent CBS News Poll shows only 18 percent of those asked had a favorable view of the vice president, who was the butt of many jokes when he accidentally shot a friend on a hunting trip last month. Cheney was hunting quail, one of the dishes available at the Spread Eagle. The vice president may want to play it safe and order the chicken.
