Summer Soul Fest, featuring the Manhattans, Midnight Star, Evelyn "Champagne" King, Al Wilson, Peaches and Herb and Bloodstone, comes to Chevrolet Centre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $33.50 to $48.50 and are available at the box office.
After Soul Fest, take a walk for a few blocks over to West Federal and Hazel streets, downtown, for the West End Party, a free outdoor party featuring local jazz-funk band SounDoctrine.
"Big River," a Tony Award winning musical based on the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckelberry Finn, opens at 8 p.m. at Salem Community Theatre, 490 E. State St., Salem. Call (330) 332-9688.
Six of the area's best rock bands, including Via Sahara, TiLT 360 and Asleep, will take to the outdoor stage at McMenamy's, 325 Youngstown-Warren Road in Niles, for an all-ages concert that will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. Tickets are $8, but can be purchased at McMenamy's in advance for $5.
j This week's performers at Julia's Bed & amp; Breakfast summer concert series are Eddie and the Edsels, who will give a salute to Buddy Holly, Wilson Pickett and the music of the '50s and '60s. The W.D. Packard Concert Band will present "Broadway, Marches and a Tuba, Too! at 7 p.m. in the South Lawn band shell. It's free. In case of rain, the show will be moved to Packard Music Hall.
Boardman Community Orchestra will present a free concert in the Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave., at 7 p.m. Selections will include selections from "Pirates of the Caribbean," "The Typewriter" and "Into the Storm."
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday for Elton John's Oct. 6 concert at Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena -- his first appearance in the city since 1999. Tickets are $35, $65, $85 and $125 and are available through www.livenation.com, the arena box office and Ticketmaster. k
