Skaggs in concert
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Westminster College Celebrity Series welcomes 10-time Grammy Award-winning musician Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder at 8 p.m. Oct. 14 in Orr Auditorium.
Known affectionately as bluegrass music's official ambassador, Skaggs has won eight awards from the Country Music Association, including 1985 "Entertainer of the Year."

Seeking singers
YOUNGSTOWN -- Scott Dorsey, chairman of the department of music at Mount Union College, has joined Sweet Adelines Spirit of the Valley as its new director. The chorus will be competing in Cleveland in April 2006 and would like to recruit more members. If you are female, able to carry a tune and interested in singing four-part harmony, please come to Faith Community Church, 1919 Midlothian Blvd., at 7 p.m. Monday.
Calling child dancers
YOUNGSTOWN -- Area children will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dance in Moscow Ballet's "Great Russian Nutcracker" production when it plays at Stambaugh Auditorium on Dec. 5.
Children ages 8 to early teens can audition for roles at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Kathi's Dance & amp; Gym Center, 10825 Springfield Road, Poland. Please bring tights, leotards, ballet slippers and pointe shoes (if on pointe).
Tickets for the 7:30 performance are available at the Stambaugh box office and through Ticketmaster (330) 747-1212.
Percussionist visits
YOUNGSTOWN -- World renowned percussionist Johnny Lee Lane will appear as guest artist and consultant at Youngstown State University's SMARTS (Students Motivated by the Arts) Center, YSU Dance Department and the Dana School of Music percussion program Oct. 12-14.
Lane will share his extensive professional insights to help YSU facilitate a world percussion/drum circle/dance accompaniment program that will foster percussion education throughout the university and community by introducing methods and artists from around the world.
The public is welcome to attend the following events during Lane's stay in Youngstown:
Oct. 12, 7-8 p.m., SMARTS Community Drum Circle performance at SMARTS Center, 258 Federal Plaza West, adjacent to Powers Auditorium.
Oct. 13, 5:30-7:30 p.m., world percussion/drum circle facilitation, SMARTS Center.
Oct 14, 11 a.m.-1p.m., World percussion clinic at Bliss Hall room 2326.
