Hayers observe 50th anniversary at dinner party
XSTRUTHERS -- A dinner party was held from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 21 at Antone's Banquet Centre in Boardman in honor of Mr. and Mrs. James Hayer, 1063 Runge Blvd., who were celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
Invitations for the event were issued by their family, Mary Beth Hayer of Cortland and Janice and David Hartzell of Struthers.
The former Mary Pavlov and Mr. Hayer were united in marriage Aug. 20, 1955, at Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church. They are members of Infant Jesus of Prague Byzantine Catholic Church in Boardman.
Mrs. Hayer retired in 1960 as a teller at Home Savings and Loan Co., Struthers, where she was employed for 12 years. She also worked as a bookstore clerk at Youngstown State University from September 1976 until retiring in December 1996.
Mr. Hayer was honorably discharged after serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS PC801. He was employed 35 years as a shipping and receiving clerk at the Wilkoff Co. in Youngstown prior to retiring in December 1982. Afterward he was a driver with Buckeye Body and Paint/Sherwin Williams in Youngstown from June 1984 until retiring in September 1992. He is a member of Struthers Northside Reunion Committee and Struthers Veterans Memorial Committee.
