Lakeview outlasts Hubbard in matchup of TAC-8 powers

Brookfield and LaBrae also earned league victories.
HUBBARD -- It took the Lakeview High girls volleyball team five games to turn back Hubbard Wednesday in a Trumbull Athletic Conference match in the Eagles' gymnasium.
The Bulldogs won the first two games 25-20 and 25-21. The Eagles bounced back as they won 25-11 and 25-13. Lakeview then clinched the victory 16-14.
Lauren McCumber sparked Lakeview (2-0, 2-0 TAC) with 19 points and six blocks.
Lindsay Whetzel finished with 15 kills and 21 digs and Michelle Antonelli had 31 assists.
Corrie Gasser led the Eagles (1-1, 1-1 TAC) with 41 assists. Kim Budd scored eight points and had 16 digs. Maggie Bogdan had 15 kills and eight blocks, Brittany Lane 12 kills and Callie Oyler 12 kills.
JVs: Lakeview 25-23, 21-25, 15-13.
Brookfield 25-25-24-25, Champion 18-11-26-18
BROOKFIELD -- Courtney Christy had 10 kills, six points and nine digs while Andrea Gladis had 11 kills, 13 points, eight digs and two blocks to lead Brookfield (3-3, 1-1). Mary Palumbo added 19 points.
For Champion (0-3, 0-2 TAC), Haley York had 10 kills and four blocks while Amber Ackerman had 11 points and four digs.
JVs: Brookfield 25-26, Champion 11-24.
LaBrae 25-25-25, Newton Falls 10-14-11
NEWTON FALLS -- Madeline D'Orio had 13 kills and six blocks while Lindsey Higgins had 23 assists and 14 points to lead LaBrae (3-0, 2-0).
For Newton Falls (0-3, 0-2), Ashley Walker had four kills and Brandi Lance eight assists.
JVs: Newton Falls 15-15, 19-23
Ursuline 25-26-25, Campbell 17-24-15
YOUNGSTOWN -- Cynthia Akpadock had 15 points and six kills to spark Ursuline (1-4).
Howland 25-27-25, Chaney 20-25-12
YOUNGSTOWN -- Taylor Summerfield had six points, two aces, 10 kills and 15 assists, while Tara Rose had 11 points, two aces, four kills and two assists for Howland (3-0). Catlyn Flick added three points, eight kills and an assist.
For Chaney (3-1), Jasmyn Hopkins had 10 points and four blocks, Jacquela Teamor had 13 assists and Antaya James and Breonna Rivers had seven kills each.
JVs: Howland 25-25, Chaney 14-15.
Struthers 25-25-26, Southern 14-17-24
STRUTHERS -- Jeanette McLaughlin led the Wildcats (2-2) with 14 kills, Dana Varga had 20 assists and Jenn McLaughlin had eight digs.
Laura VanDyne led the Indians (0-4) with 10 kills. Amber Wright had five digs.
JVs: Southern 25-14, 23-25, 15-4.
