Three fires flare up in Austintown
AUSTINTOWN -- There were no injuries in three fires over the Labor Day weekend and Tuesday.
A basement fire damaged a house at 26 Creed Drive at 5:34 a.m. Tuesday. Austintown Fire Chief Andrew Frost said homeowner Ronald Howell got his family safely out of the house.
Frost said the fire is believed to be accidental, but the cause is still undetermined. He said there is $40,000 in damage to the home.
A garage fire Monday caused $60,000 in damage, Frost said. He said that fire, which started around 8:48 a.m. at 6235 Kirk Road, is also thought to be accidental. The cause also is being investigated.
Frost also said he does not know what caused a grass fire that burned a 12-acre field at Austintown Township Park. He said the fire started while the township park department was cutting grass there Friday afternoon.
He said no structures burned, and there will not be an investigation into the cause.
