Mahoning board rejects 2 candidates
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Board of Elections disqualified two candidates and four liquor options from the Nov. 8 ballot.
The board disqualified Joseph E. Donnelly, a Berlin Township trustee candidate, and Paul Shovlin, a Boardman trustee candidate, for not having enough valid signatures on their nominating petitions.
The board voted to keep Thomas J. Dalton on the ballot as a Jackson-Milton school board candidate. The election staff had recommended his removal because the address listed on his nominating petition didn't match the address on his voter registration card.
But the board ruled that because Dalton lives in the school district, he can remain a candidate.
The board also disqualified four liquor options: Sunday sales at Rocky's Corner Tavern in Austintown Precinct 3, Monday-through-Saturday sales at a planned restaurant in Boardman Precinct 35, and two proposals from Jump in Jack's Chicken Shack in Beaver Precinct 5 -- one for Monday-through-Saturday sales and the other for Sunday sales.
