Dogs, handlers ready to walk for money
Proceeds from the event will support the care of abandoned and abused animals.
BOARDMAN -- The fifth annual Four-Paws-A-Thon will be sponsored by Second Chance Animal Rescue on Saturday to raise funds for the care of abandoned and abused animals in the community.
The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chester Long Pavilion, near the hike and bike trail in Boardman Township Park, state Route 224.
The cost is $15. Registration will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m.; each person registering will receive a doggie bag filled with goodies.
The day's events include a blessing of the animals by Rev. Edward Noga at 10 a.m., a two-mile walk at 10:15, a dog training demonstration at 11 and contests at 11:30.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places in the following categories: waggiest tail, pet-owner look-alike, best trick, prince of the walk and princess of the walk. A prize basket will be awarded the person and pet submitting the most pledges.
Pictures costing $5 will be taken from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and hot dogs, baked goods, pop and water will be sold.
Laurie Lehosky of WFMJ Today will host the fund-raiser.
