YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County Treasurer John B. Reardon announced the opening of the second-half real estate tax collection.
Tax bills were mailed Wednesday and today. All taxpayers should receive their bills no later than July 8, the treasurer said.
The closing date for the second-half collection of 2004 taxes is Aug. 5. Reardon said his office estimates collection receipts to be about $88 million, which will be given to local schools, city and township governments, and other county agencies.
Reardon said taxpayers should mail their payments directly to the treasurer's office, 120 Market St., Youngstown 44503. A postmark of Aug. 5 is considered to be an on-time payment, he added.
Because of funding difficulties this year that forced staff reductions, the treasurer's office had been closed Mondays and Fridays, but the office will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the tax-collection period. For additional information, call (330) 740-2460.
