McDONALD -- The McDonald Sideliners will sponsor their 12th annual Golf Outing at the Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard, with a shot gun start at 9 a.m. July 2.
The annual event costs $65 per golfer and includes lunch and dinner. Door prizes will be given and two, hole-in-one contests are being sponsored.Winners of a hole-in-one on a green that has a car on it will win one of two brand new cars to be given away to hole-in-one winners.
The Youngstown Buick is donating one car and Preston Chrysler, Warren, is donating the second.
Advance tickets can be obtained from Mike Witkoski by contacting him at (330) 530-0050.
Those interested can also sign-up the day of the outing, but are advised to start early because of the "shot gun" start, in which all golfers will begin play on different holes at the same time at 9 a.m. The fee includes lunch and dinner.
All proceeds from the outing go toward the Sideliners Club support of the McDonald schools football program.
The Sideliners, who committed $5,000 for the purchase of new football uniforms at the high school this year, have already paid that donation.
For the first time, the Sideliners sponsored a Golf Foursome Raffle this spring, and all 500 tickets at $20 each sold to raise $10,000, half of which was given to the schools for the uniforms.
The Foursome includes payment for play and a cart for a golf foursome at any one of eight private or three public courses in the area, who donated the prizes.
The drawing for the Foursome was held early, in May, because all of the tickets were sold and the Grand Prize was a foursome and a cart at the Firestone Country Club in Akron. The drawing had originally been scheduled to take place at the Golf Outing.
The Foursome courses were organized by event chairman Bob Adair.
The drawing was held at the high school in May during a student and teacher clean-up day in the community. Participants planted flowers, cleaned up debris around the village and went to individual homes of residents who called and asked for a clean up.
The Sideliners will also sponsor a booth at the annual Firemen's Festival June 29 to July 2 selling team apparel, including t-shirts and sweatshirts, white rubber band bracelets with "McDonald Blue Devils" imprinted on them, and memberships to the Sideliners.
