MERCER, Pa. -- A new director for Mercer County Children and Youth Services is expected to be formally hired when Mercer County commissioners meet today.
Commissioners announced at their agenda meeting Wednesday that they intend to hire Mary Ann Daniels of Meadville at $51,465 annually. She will start July 18.
She currently serves as associate director of the Crawford County Human Services Department. She has worked in the human services field since 1989 and also has a private practice as a psychotherapist. Daniels holds a master's degree from Edinboro University.
Bill Boyle, director of administrative services, said Daniels was chosen from 32 applicants, six of whom were interviewed. Commissioner Michele Brooks said Daniels was the unanimous choice of the search committee, which consisted of all three commissioners, Chief Juvenile Probation Officer Mark Benedetto and Dr. Robert Craig of Lawrence County, a psychologist who volunteered to serve.
Boyle said Daniels will not be required to move to Mercer County and will be allowed to continue her residency in Meadville, which is in nearby Crawford County.
Daniels will succeed longtime CYS Director Beverly Burrows who resigned to take another job. Burrows is working on a contract to prepare next year's Mercer County CYS budget and her contract will not be affected by Daniels' hiring, commissioners said.
