WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners, in charge of county tourism efforts this year, will kick off the 2005 season with an open house June 28.
The grand opening of the Trumbull County Tourism and Information Center, 2931 Youngstown-Warren Road, will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A slogan of "Trumbull County -- Citywide to Countryside" has been adopted.
This office will be the focal point for people to stop in and pick up information on events, attractions, hotels, maps and directions.
"We really want to see this venture be truly successful for the Trumbull County community," said Commissioner Daniel Polivka, board president. "This will be a great way to show off the Trumbull County area to residents and visitors alike."
The approach this year also is a different one for the county.
There was more than a year's worth of friction between commissioners and the former Trumbull County Convention & amp; Visitors Bureau over board membership appointments and investment of county lodging tax money.
Commissioners wanted to be in charge of board appointments, so in May they established a new entity, called the Trumbull County Tourism Board, to receive 2 percent of the county's lodging tax.
A new three-member tourism board has organized itself, with Polivka as chairman, county Treasurer Christ Michelakis as vice chairman, and commissioners' clerk Paulette Godfrey as recording secretary.
