XSt. Ambrose Church 46th annual Chicken Dinner Festival in Garrettsville will be held Saturday and Sunday. Chicken dinners will be served from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Takeout will be available. The two-day event will include a Chinese auction, bingo, instant bingo, children's and adult games, and raffles for cash, a tractor, afghans and a quilt, and other items. Saturday's activities will include the local band "Barnstorm" from 7 to 11 p.m., with a snack bar and beverages, and Sunday's events will include the Howd Monkey Show at 1 p.m.
XAmerican Cancer Society's Relay for Life events are scheduled Friday and Saturday at Roosevelt Park in Campbell, Sebring High School and D.W. Dickey & amp; Sons in Lisbon. XAmerican Cancer Society's annual Swim-along campaign is under way at 11 pools and swim clubs in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties through July 25. Youth of all ages are getting a flat donation or pledges for each lap they swim from family, friends and others. Donations are tax-deductible. Each participant will receive a pledge form; those who raise $40 or more receive a 2005 Swim-along T-shirt. A prize will be awarded to the top fund-raiser overall, and a trophy will be given to the top fund-raiser from each pool. Other prizes also will be awarded. XCanfield Fire Co. is raffling a brand new 2005 Harley Davidson FXSTI Softtail bike, valued at $16,500, to raise money to help pay the medical bills for one of their own, a father of two young children, who has been diagnosed with liver cancer. Tickets are $100 each; only 500 will be sold. The winner will be drawn at a photo-recorded drawing at the Harley Davidson shop in Canfield July 1. The bike's gas tank is signed by five Orange County choppers, the motorcycle builders who star in "American Choppers" on the Discovery channel. XUnited Quilt Guild will hold its third biennial Patchwork Garden quilt show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Sebring McKinley High School, 225 E. Indiana Ave. Cost is $4, and the show will feature more than 100 quilts by local quiltmakers, a display of Hoffman Challenge quilts, a market place, vendors, demonstrations and refreshments. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Cameo Creations, which assists uninsured or underinsured breast-cancer survivors purchase breast forms and mastectomy bras.
XBeaver Creek Horsemen's Association will sponsor its second annual Handicap Ride from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Beaver Creek State Park Horsemen's camp on Sprucevale Road. XEast Palestine Memorial Public Library is having a "Tasting Spree" tea at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. All ages are invited. Recipes will be taken from the Friends of the Library cookbook.
