CLASS B Koch Construction/Line Drive wins opener of Cene Tourney

STRUTHERS --Corey Martin pitched a four-hitter shutout and also hit a pair of singles and drove in a run as Joe Koch Construction/Line Drive Academy shut out GlenOak Eagles 4-0 in the Bob Cene Memorial Wooden Bat Tournament Friday at Cene Park.

There were three other contests in the Pool format. Each team is guaranteed four games, with the top two advancing to Sunday's championship.

Martin struck out 12 and walked just one. Grant Sevek had a double for Koch/Line Drive.

Stark Stars 3, Astros 2

Behind 2-0, Stark Stars bounced back as it scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, then got the winning run in the eighth.

A wild pitch scored the first run and a single by Ryan Baechel tied the game.

In the bottom of the eighth, a leadoff error, followed by a sacrifice bunt put the winning run at second base. After a intentional walk, a ground ball was hit to short and thrown away allowing the winning run to score.

Drew Turocy, the losing pitcher, hit a triple to drive in the first run of the contest and he scored the second on a sacrifice fly by Adam Wigley, who also added a double.

Winning pitcher Sam Campitella went the distance, allowing four hits. He had 11 strikeouts and walked just one.

Andy's 9ers 7, Mink 3

Andy's 9ers opened a 7-0 lead and held off a seventh-inning rally by Mink to prevail.

Lou Kastelec had a pair of hits for the winners while Paul O'Donnell tossed a complete game.

All three runs scored by Mink were unearned. Chris Pechalk had a pair of hits and Matt Pytlik drove in two runs with a double in the seventh inning.

Mountaineer 6, Rondinelli 1

Alex Oles tossed a four-hit complete game for the Mountaineer Park Hitmen and he struck out seven.

Casey Frawley hit a double and a single and Ryan Puskar had a pair of hits for the Hitmen.

Matt Dado had an RBI triple for Rondinelli. Hayden Johnston hit a double.
