South Side man injured critically in bar shooting
YOUNGSTOWN - A South Side man was in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center early today after being shot at a Steel Street bar Sunday morning.
Robert Gonzalez, 25, of 335 E. Florida Ave., suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach after being shot once at Cyrak's Bar, 706 Steel St., on the city's West Side.
According to reports, the shooting took place around 2 a.m. Sunday at the bar. Police found Gonzalez lying on his back near the back door, and the shooter fled on foot through the rear door onto Florence Avenue.
Police interviewed several witnesses, two of whom described the shooter as a light-skinned black male wearing dark blue jeans, a white T-shirt with a yellow shirt underneath and a baseball cap.
A third witness at the hospital told police she knew who the shooter was, but not by name, the report said. She said he had recently gotten out of federal prison after having been paroled on felony drug charges, the report said.
Police also talked to a man who brought a camcorder to the bar to film a party. The report said the man, who wished to be anonymous, inadvertently filmed the person thought to be the shooter, but not the shooting.
No casings were found at the scene. A bag of Gonzalez's clothing was turned over to the crime lab.
