The 27-year-old was killed when the wrecker he was riding in rolled over.

SHARON, Pa. -- A 1996 Mercer County Career Center graduate was killed last week in Iraq.

Pfc. Douglas E. Kashmer, 27, died Wednesday in Nippur, Iraq, when the wrecker in which he was a passenger was involved in a non-combat related rollover accident, according to the Department of Defense.

Kashmer was assigned to the Army's 70th Transportation Company, Mannheim, Germany.

His parents now live in South Carolina, according to his half-sister, Diane Kashmer.

Reached by phone Sunday at her home in Sharon, Kashmer said she last saw Doug two months ago when she ran into him at a local Wal-Mart.

"We hugged and he told me he loved it, that it was the best thing he had ever done," she said. "The last thing he said to me was , 'Don't forget me. Keep writing to me.' I can't believe he's gone."
