Ballet troupes from Canada and Cincy to make debuts in Cleveland
CLEVELAND -- Northeast Ohio audiences will have the opportunity to witness the Cleveland debuts of two premiere ballet companies -- The National Ballet of Canada and Cincinnati Ballet.
New York City's American Ballet Theatre and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater return for Playhouse Square Center's fourth ballet series in 2005-06.
Cincinnati Ballet will present its version of "The Nutcracker" Dec. 7-11; The National Ballet of Canada will dance "The Firebird" and "The Four Seasons" Jan. 27-29; American Ballet Theatre will offer "Le Corsaire" March 16-19; and the Alvin Ailey company will take the state April 7-9.
"Nutcracker," "Firebird" and "Le Corsaire" will be danced to live music provided by a full orchestra. Designs for the colorful "Nutcracker" sets and costumes are by children's author and illustrator Alain Va & euml;s, and were constructed in St. Petersburg, Russia, at The Kirov's Ballet Scene Shop.
For more than 45 years, the Alvin Ailey company has dazzled audiences, and it now returns to Cleveland after a four-year absence. The company has danced for an estimated 19 million people in 48 states and 68 countries on six continents.
The two-show, ballet-subscription series, consisting of The National Ballet of Canada and American Ballet Theatre, is on sale now. Premium seating is available.
