LAKE MILTON -- A few changes have taken place in Milton Township's police department, including the addition of an acting chief.
Trustees decided last week to reassign William Moretz from chief to sergeant, Trustee Sue Lemmon said. The move was made, Lemmon said, because Moretz was no longer needed in that capacity.
Trustees gave Moretz the option of staying on the force as a sergeant, although it's not known what his decision will be, Lemmon noted.
Last week, trustees appointed Sgt. Michael Saltsman as temporary chief of the department, which has eight to 10 part-time officers. Saltsman has served for seven years on the police department, longer than any other officer, Lemmon added.
Lemmon stressed that the moves will not adversely affect police protection or response times to residents.
"Everything is as it was," she said. "We've just appointed a different chief of police."
In another move, the Rev. Michael Levelle returned to the department as part-time chaplain. He was reinstated Friday.
