BOWLING Donatelli Sr., Guerrieri earn Hall of Fame spots

Dave and Doug Sweeney will be among the sponsors honored.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Dan Donatelli Sr. and Neil A. Guerrieri will be inducted into the Youngstown Bowling Hall of Fame on June 19 at the Itam Centre on Meridian Road.

A member of the Youngstown Bowling Association for 40 years, Donatelli has a high game of 289, a high three-game series of 731 and a high average of 196.

He's bowled in five A.B.C. tournaments, 15 Ohio state tournaments and 20 Youngstown City tournaments.

A senior singles champion in 1999, he took first place in the Class A division.

Donatelli has bowled in as many as six leagues a week. He has also been very active in softball and bocce leagues. In 1997 he was elected as Sponsor of the Year by the Youngstown Bowling Association.

A graduate of Lowellville High, he served in the U.S. Army from 1946-48.

He was in the restaurant business for 40 years having owned the Park Inn, Donatelli's Lounge and Telstar restaurants.

Veteran bowler

Guerrieri, of Boardman, has been bowling for 45 years, including 36 in the YBA and nine years in the juniors. He's had two 300 games, a high series of 858 and a high average of 212.

He has bowled in 29 A.B.C. tournaments, 26 Ohio state tournaments and 35 Youngstown City tournaments. His highest finish in A.B.C. was 51st in the singles event. He placed second in the state tournament doubles event with his cousin, Dan Guerrieri.

He was first in the Youngstown City tournament four times in the team event and won three doubles titles with Dan Guerrieri. He finished first in the Akron College tournament when he was a student.

He rolled 805 at McGuffey Lanes in 1977, the first in a McGuffey league and the only 800 set in the city that year.

He bowled a 858 series, with a 300 game at A Plus in 1997. Guerrieri has numerous 700 sets and 299 and 298 games.

A graduate of Ursuline High in 1970, he attended Youngstown State and he's worked at Superior Beverage for 25 years.

Dave and Doug Sweeney, Gary Bueno, Lou Schiavone and Guy DePizzo also will be honored at the YBA event as Sponsors of the Year.
