The victim managed to escape and run to a friend's house.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kevin L. Cambridge, 28, of Hampton Court, was in St. Elizabeth's Health Center on Thursday with deep slashes to his throat inflicted by a masked man. His condition was not available Thursday evening.
Police were sent to Cambridge's home at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to check out a report of an assault. Officers found a dining room chair overturned and blood on the carpet. They also found blood on walls leading upstairs.
A box cutter and duct tape were found on the hallway floor near a bedroom. Officers, however, found no victim.
Taken to hospital
A friend of Cambridge's who lives on Eleanor Avenue had taken him to Forum Health Northside Medical Center. Cambridge was later transferred to St. Elizabeth's.
The friend told police that Cambridge showed up on his back porch around 10 p.m. Wednesday, covered in blood.
The friend learned that the suspect in a hat and mask had forced his way in to Cambridge's house, beat him in the head with the gun and ordered him upstairs. Once upstairs, the suspect cut Cambridge and tried to wrap his neck area with the tape, reports show.
Cambridge managed to escape and run through back yards to his friend's house.
Life threatening cuts
Reports show Cambridge had deep cuts to both sides of his neck and severe defensive cuts on both hands as well as cuts on his chest. The wounds were considered life threatening.
A woman who called 911 told the call taker that a gunman in a mask entered the Hampton Court house and taped her boyfriend up and she fled.
No motive was given for the assault. Detectives were not given a good description of the suspect.
