Citizens to green up Youngstown's urban center
YOUNGSTOWN -- About 200 to 250 volunteers will work to beautify the city's downtown from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday as part of Streetscape's Watch Youngstown Grow program.
Volunteers will remove debris, trim trees and bushes, plant flowers and shrubs, and mulch planted areas during the eighth annual event.
Focus areas include the West Federal Street median, John Young Memorial, the corner of Front Street and South Avenue, and city hall.
In conjunction with Streetscape, volunteers from Youngstown State University, Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, Fifth Avenue Boulevard Neighbors and St. Elizabeth Health Center will clean up and landscape other areas of the city.
In the event of inclement weather, landscaping will be conducted from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday.
Volunteers and contributions are still needed. For more information, contact Youngstown CityScape at (330) 742-4040.
Streetscape is an improvement project of Youngstown CityScape, a nonprofit organization working to revitalize the city's downtown and gateways through beautification, education and preservation.
