Hudson Valley stops Scrappers 7-2

The Renegades scored five runs in the third inning to take control.

FISHKILL, N.Y. -- A five-run third inning was the difference as Hudson Valley turned back the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 7-2 Tuesday in a New York-Penn League game at Dutchess Stadium.

The Renegades, fourth in the McNamara Division, evened their record at 13-13. The Scrappers, third in the Pinckney Division, are even at 14-14.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Scrappers took a 2-0 lead. With one out, Derrick Peterson walked and moved to second on a single by Omar Casillas. Evandy DeLeon beat out a single to load the bases. With two out, Mike Woodson singled home Peterson and Casillas.

The Renegades bounced back in the bottom half of the inning as Edward Groce reached second base on an error and advanced to third on a single by Matt Spring. Joshua Johnson doubled home Groce, with Spring advancing to third.

Ryder Mathias was hit by a pitch to load the bases, then John Bouman walked, forcing in Spring. Johnson scored on a groundout as Jairo de la Rosa reached first on a fielder's choice. David Kennedy's triple scored Mathias and de la Rosa.

Hudson scored two insurance runs in the eighth inning as Mathias singled and stole second. Neil Walton walked, then Mathias scored on a double by de la Rosa. After Kennedy was hit by a pitch, Walton scored on a sacrifice fly.

Andrew Lytle went 3-for-4 to pace the Scrappers. Kennedy went 2-for-3 for Hudson Valley with a triple, a double and two RBIs.

Jose Amaya (1-2), came on in the fifth inning for the Scrappers and worked two-thirds of an inning. He allowed three hits and five runs in taking the loss.

Jacob McGee (2-2) worked five innings for the Renegades. He gave up seven hits and struck out seven to pick up the win.
