Syphard graduates cum laude from law school
Boardman resident Daniel Syphard received his juris doctorate degree from the Duquesne University School of Law, Pittsburgh. Graduating cum laude, Syphard also was awarded first place in the 2004 Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition for a meritorious paper on copyright law.
Syphard, a 1998 graduate of Boardman High School, and a 2002 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor degree in business administration, with majors in accounting and finance.
Syphard has accepted an appointment as law clerk for the United States Bankruptcy Court in Youngstown.
He is the son of John and Kathy Syphard of Boardman, and grandson of Chris and Evelyn Johnson also of Boardman, and Patricia Steel of Poland.
Rankin gets juris doctor
Kristen Noble Rankin, formerly of Liberty, received her juris doctor degree from the Moritz College of Law of Ohio State University.
During her law studies, she also was awarded a certificate in alternative dispute resolution and was the recipient of the ABA/BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Intellectual Property Law.
She will be employed on the legal staff of the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, Columbus.
Rankin is a 1997 graduate of Ursuline High School and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in English from OSU in 2001.
She is the daughter of George and Kathleen Noble of Liberty. She and her husband, Timothy, live in Grove City, Ohio.
Emch couple advance
Todd Emch, a 1994 graduate of Hubbard High School, has become board certified after completing his residency at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
A 1996 graduate of YSU, and 2000 graduate of Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Dr. Emch became board certified in diagnostic radiology. He has begun a two-year fellowship in Neuroradiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
His wife, the former Michelle Zysko, a 1997 YSU graduate, and a 2001 NEOUCOM grad, completed her residency in psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She was to start this month on staff at Akron General Medical Center as a general adult psychiatrist.
Dr. Todd Emch is the son of Ron and Barbara Emch of Hubbard. Dr. Michelle Emch is the daughter of Richard Zysko and the late Zophia Zysko of Broadview Heights, Ohio.
Two osteopathic degrees
Two Mahoning County men have received their doctor of osteopathic medicine degrees from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Athens.
They are Ryan Colapietro of Youngstown and Jason Cappuzello if Girard.
Dr. Colapietro is the son of Evelyn Colapietro of Youngstown. He received his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University in 1999. He began an internship at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va., in June.
Dr. Cappuzzello, the son of Joseph and Ruth Cappuzzello of Girard, received a bachelor's degree from Hiram College in 1997.
He began an internship in June at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
