Champion trustees approve retirement of firefighter
By MARY POFF
CHAMPION -- Champion trustees approved the retirement of Fire Lt. Gary Lucik Monday night.
Lucik, who has served as a volunteer/reserve fireman for 25 years, will retire effective July 23.
Fire Chief Lewis Austin congratulated Lucik on his retirement but said the department is losing a firefighter whose experience was invaluable. Other resignations accepted Monday included reserves Karesa Robinson and Brad Nicholas.
In other business, road supervisor Ron Hickox told the board the additional tornado siren is now secured at the top of the cell tower which is located on the property of the Champion Township office and garage. It just needs to have electricity run to it, but Hickox said that probably won't be done this month. The public will be notified when they are ready to test it, he said.
Zoning inspector Rhonda Fonce gave the board a list of addresses which the board approved as nuisance properties. The owners of these properties will be notified by mail that they must have their grass mowed. Properties included are: 185 Glendola, 370 Eldon Drive, 121 Marshall Ave. W., 1340 and 1781 State Road N.W., 5944 Shaffer and 287 Center St. E.
Properties needing debris removed are 287 Center St. E. and 4812 Damon Ave. These residents will be given time to take care of the problem or the city will do it and the cost will be added to the residents' taxes.
