GIRARD -- A shooting late Saturday left a Girard woman critically injured and a man dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said. Joseph O'Connell, 26, of Girard, died after what a police statement described as "an apparent attempted murder/suicide" at 11:22 p.m. Police responded to a call about a shooting at 298 Louis Circle and found O'Connell dead at the scene. They found Michelle Skidmore, 20, at 296 Louis Circle. She had been shot at least twice, according to reports. A police statement released Sunday said that the shooting was apparently a result of a domestic argument. Skidmore was in critical condition Sunday night at St. Elizabeth Health Center. The Trumbull County Coroner's Office and Girard police are investigating.
