Jubilee Gardens receives $1,500 in grants

Published: Thu, July 7, 2005 @ 12:00 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Jubilee Gardens received a $1,000 grant from The Frances Schermer Charitable Trust and $500 from the Lillian Schermer Charitable Trust.

The money will be used for general operations.

The trusts made no designations for spending of the money, as long as it benefits the program.

Jubilee Gardens is an urban community gardening program open to Mahoning Valley residents.

They also teamed with Ohio State University and the Wean Foundation to create the Good Natured Garden Partners Program, which encourages multigenerational gardening.

Prizes for the Good Natured Garden Partners Program will be awarded at a garden party Aug. 17 at the community gardens on Lafayette Street.
