Scrappers sweep Batavia, move into tie for 1st place

BATAVIA, N.Y. -- Derrick Peterson's two hits included a double and drove in three runs as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers rallied for a 7-4 victory Tuesday over the Batavia Muckdogs in New York-Penn League action.
The Scrappers (9-6) won their fifth straight game to move into a tie for first place by sweeping the three-game series from the Muckdogs.
Tonight, the Scrappers will open a three-game series in Jamestown, N.Y., against the Pinckney Division co-leading Jammers (9-6).
Jordan Brown and Stephen Head also had two hits for the Scrappers. Leadoff batter Jose Constanza swiped two bases.
Scrappers catcher Omar Casillas threw out two Muckdogs trying to steal -- Mike Costanzo and Orlando Gaevara.
For the Scrappers, Andrew Lytle tripled to drive in a run.
The Muckdogs took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning against Scrappers starter Kevin Dixon.
Justin Pekarek (2-0) relieved Dixon in the fourth inning and became the winning pitcher when the Scrappers scored three runs in the sixth inning to regain the lead.
The Scrappers added a run in the eighth frame and two more in the ninth.
Roddy Dustin earned his second save by pitching the final two innings, allowing a run in the ninth.
Reliever Ronald Hill (1-2) took the loss for Batavia as he gave up four runs in the three innings he worked.
