SANDLOT BASEBALL Mink Financial sweeps past R & amp;J in Class B playoffs

Livi Steel evened its series with Wharmby Sports, 10-9.

STRUTHERS -- Mink Financial defeated R & amp; J Trucking 5-4 to sweep their first round Class B League playoff series Monday night at Cene Park.

Corey Vukovic went the first 52/3 innings for the win.

He had seven strikeouts and allowed four runs.

Ryan Myers earned the save, getting out of a jam with the tying run at third in the top of the seventh.

Lonnie McQueen paced Mink with a single and a double, while Kevin Lee had an RBI double and Chris Pechalk and Brett Grabman had RBI singles.

R & amp; J only had five hits in the game, but they were all for extra bases.

Losing pitcher Joe Fox had an inside the park home run in the third, and tossed a complete game in defeat.

He had eight strikeouts and allowed three earned runs.

Ed Rohan and Joe Rosko had back-to-back doubles in the fourth for the second R & amp; J run, and Rohan drove home R & amp; J's third run with a triple, and scored the last on a sacrifice fly by Rosko.

Mink will face either Astro Falcons or Rondinelli Tuxedo in the next round beginning Wednesday.

Livi Steel 10, Wharmby Sports 9

Tony Pozega hit a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to cap a four run rally for Livi Steel, which evened the series.

Game three is tonight at 8 at Cene Park.

For Livi, Manoli Pahoulis had three hits, while Stephen Hermann added a single and a double.

Wharmby's had 18 hits. J

essie Alfreno and Tom Popadak had three each, while Jake Gross, Josh Fyffe, Lou Kopachy, John Warren, Kyle Milbert, and Billy Herman each had two.

Herman had a solo homer.

Derek Sumner was the winner in relief as he went 21/3 innings, allowing one earned run.

Jarryd Summers suffered the loss in relief.

He allowed six runs, five earned in 32/3 innings.

Wharmby Sports 3, Livi Steel 2

In game one of the series played Sunday, Wharmby scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

The game was a pitching duel between Jake Abbott of Livi and Tom Popadak of Wharmby.

Popadak went the first 62/3 innings allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits.

He had five strikeouts.

Abbott tossed a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits.

He had seven strikeouts.

Stephen Hermann had a double and a single for Livi, while Lou Kopachy had a double and a single for Wharmby.

Billy Herman and JC McCoy also had two hits for the winners.

Jim Jaskowak got the win in relief.

Little b

Cameron Konop hit a two out double in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Andy Onufrak with the winning run as the Astro Falcons defeated R & amp; J Trucking 10-9 in game one of the best-of-five Class Little b championship series at Cene Park.

Game two is tonight at 6 at Cene Park.

Drew Turocy had four hits to pace the 15-hit Astro attack.

Marc Turnbull added three singles, while Onufrak and Mike Dota had a pair of safeties.

Jason Simons tossed 61/3 innings in relief for the win.

He allowed two earned runs and had five strikeouts.

Matt Yarab, Steve McNeely, and Greg Brown had two hits each for R & amp; J Trucking, who had 13 hits in the contest.

Ed Rohan had three RBIs while Geoff Marple suffered the defeat in relief of Mark Carrocce.

R & amp; J Trucking 8,L.F. Wolf Contracting 3

R & amp; J Trucking got a complete-game performance from Greg Brown to win the series late Sunday. Brown allowed two earned runs and had seven strikeouts.

Geoff Marple had a double and a single with three RBIs, while Mark Lapikas added two hits.

Cory Johnson had two singles, while C. David Schafer added a single and a double for Wolf.
