Quaids mark anniversaryby buying country estate

LOS ANGELES -- Actor Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly, have bought a home in the Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles for slightly less than $8 million. The Quaids, who will celebrate their first wedding anniversary today, bought a French Country-style estate on a road lined by mature trees, a natural creek and lush gardens. The newly built house has nine bedrooms and 81/2 bathrooms in 8,400 square feet. The house stands on nearly an acre, zoned for horses. The actor, 51, was born and raised in Texas, and his wife, now a Los Angeles Realtor, was a Texas real estate agent when they began dating in 2003. He filed for divorce from actress Meg Ryan, his wife of nearly 10 years, in July 2000, and their divorce was final a year later.

Brando memorabilia auction nets $2.3M

NEW YORK -- Marlon Brando's annotated script from 1972's "The Godfather" brought more than $300,000 in an auction of the star's memorabilia that netted a total of $2.3 million. The script fetched more than 20 times its estimated auction price of $10,000 to $15,000. It was the largest amount paid for any single item at the auction last week, and the highest amount ever paid for a film script, according to Christie's New York. "Godfather" mementos were the night's stars. Another top item related to the movie was a letter from the book's author, Mario Puzo, asking Brando to take the role of Don Vito Corleone. It brought $132,000. A photograph of Brando and Rita Moreno in the 1968 film "The Night of the Following Day" -- the only piece of movie memorabilia that Brando kept in his home -- brought $48,000. A 1961 telegram from Brando to Marilyn Monroe sold for $36,000.

Bice, girlfriend tie knot

NEW YORK -- Bo Bice didn't win the fourth season of "American Idol," but he did win his girlfriend's hand in marriage -- and the No. 1 spot on this week's Billboard hot singles sales chart. The "American Idol" runner-up wed Caroline Fisher in Helena, Ala., Bice's publicist, Roger Widynowski, confirmed to The Associated Press last week. The couple, who have been together for almost two years, exchanged vows at the New Hope Presbyterian Church on June 15 and their marriage certificate was granted Thursday in Shelby County, according to a report in People magazine. Bice, 29, and Fisher, 24, met when he worked as a guitar store clerk and frequented the Ragtime Cafe in Hoover, where Fisher worked as a waitress. His "Inside Your Heaven" single replaces "Idol" winner Carrie Underwood's version of the same song at No. 1 on next week's Billboard singles sales chart, a first in the history of the sales chart, RCA Records said.

Babyface back in spotlight

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who's launching a new album later this month after more than five years out of the spotlight, performed an invitation-only acoustic session for more than 500 people. Edmonds sang his hits of the past on Friday -- "Whip Appeal," "Never Keeping Secrets," and "When Can I See You Again?" -- and introduced cuts from his new album, including the title song "Grown and Sexy" and the first release "Sorry for the Stupid Things." He also paid tribute to R & amp;B crooner Luther Vandross, whose death Friday brought a moment of silence throughout the crowd.
