Changes at Supreme Court make this a pivotal time

EDITOR:

With so much at stake, it is imperative that supporters of reproductive justice contact Sen. Mike DeWine, who has a coveted seat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Let him know that you will be closely monitoring the qualifications of a proposed nominee, and will not stand for the selection of anyone who threatens the constitutional protection of privacy guaranteed by Roe v. Wade.

This is a pivotal moment for the future of this country. Now, more than ever, a lifetime appointment requires a confirmation process that is nothing less than thoughtful and intelligent. Americans deserve a potential Supreme Court justice whose nomination is fully deliberated to ensure that he or she demonstrates a resolve to protect our health and safety. It would be a grave injustice to appoint a nominee who is not committed to upholding that tradition.

Flag is more than cloth

EDITOR:

This is addressed to The Vindicator and anyone else who thinks that it is a right to burn our flag. First let me put it on a level you can understand. The American flag is not a piece of cloth, nor is it a symbol that one would want to treat lightly. The American flag is the blood of those who didn't make it back, the disabled veterans, and the broken hearts of loved ones. The only thing that kept them going was the thought of the American flag and that for which it stands. Not only for the present, but for the future.

If someone disrespected your mother would you look the other way? Would you say well the Constitution guarantees free speech? I don't think so, and neither do you. You would be a coward if you defended the actions of someone who would do such a thing.

The only reason anyone would want to burn the American flag is to show disrespect and contempt for what we stand for. Most of the people who would even consider burning our flag as a protest are either misguided, immature, anti-American, or have not yet realized what a privilege it is to live in a land that many are dying to get in to.

Some have said if you don't like America or Americans, maybe you should consider moving. But I say be careful because one day you may wake up and find that the freedoms that you take for granted are gone. The freedom to build up and not tear down, the freedom to love your neighbor and not treat them in a way that would hurt them. Personally, I am deeply hurt by the thought of anyone who would want to take the sacrifices of others so lightly.
