DISTRICT ROUNDUP Sebring closes in on TCL title

The Trojans' victory over Lisbon gave them a three-game lead in the league.

SEBRING -- Joe James scored 22 points and Dan Scarpitti had 19, as Sebring High virtually sewed up another Tri-County League boys basketball championship Tuesday, with a 64-46 defeat of Lisbon.

The Trojans (13-1, 9-0 TCL) have three-game lead with five games to play.

James split his eight field goals evenly between 2- and 3-pointers, as Sebring took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 20-9 for a 32-17 lead at the intermission.

Marcus Judy had 15 points and three assists for Lisbon (10-4, 6-3), while Tim McClester added eight points and eight rebounds. Josh Grafton also had eight points and two assists.

Columbiana 70, Leetonia 47

LEETONIA -- Dave Vitko scored 15 points to lead Columbiana, which is in a three-way tie for second place in the TCL.

The Clippers (9-5, 6-3) also received 10 points each from Jared Patton and Eric Bailey. Patton had three steals, Greg Sell had nine rebounds, and Eric Ostrander had nine points on 7-of-8 shooting at the foul line and four assists.

Ryan Weikart scored 21 points for Leetonia (2-12, 0-9).

East Palestine 58, Crestview 39

NEW WATERFORD -- Brett Young scored 17 points for East Palestine.

Travis Foreman added 15 points for the Bulldogs (3-12, 3-6 TCL), while Dan Hanolt scored 12 and Jake Harvey had 11.

Crestview (3-12, 2-7) was led by Jerry Einseidel, with 12 points. Jordan Reynolds and Justin Smith added eight points each, and Andy Walton finished with six points and eight rebounds.

United 58, Southern 57

HANOVERTON -- United trailed in the TCL game 34-17 late in the second quarter, but outscored Southern 21-9 in the third quarter and 16-14 over the final eight minutes.

Tyler Boyle scored 14 points for the Golden Eagles (9-4, 6-3) and had nine rebounds. Bubba Taylor added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Jake Roelen finished with 13 points.

Josh Diaz had game-highs of 24 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for Southern (8-7, 4-5). Aaron Blatch scored 16 points and Jesse Shilot had 12.

Newton Falls 61, Girard 34

NEWTON FALLS -- Chad Rankin scored 13 points to lead a balanced Newton Falls attack in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.

Travis McCartney added 12 points and Eric Medallis scored 10 for the Tigers (7-6, 4-3), who led 23-10 at halftime.

Girard (3-10, 2-5) was led by Sean Mostov and Joe Smerchanski, with eight points apiece.

Heartland Christian 50,Mogadore Christian 46

COLUMBIANA -- Nate Wolford scored 15 points to lead Heartland Christian (9-8). Jerrod Plate added 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.

Kennedy Catholic 83,Vision Quest 47

HERMITAGE -- Kennedy Catholic jumped out to a 30-11 lead after one quarter.

Blair Rozenbald led the Eagles with 21 points, while Shamus Reimold scored 18 and David Jackson had 15.

Pete Farley scored 21 points for Vision Quest.

Western Beaver 81, Shenango 73

INDUSTRY, Pa. -- Steve McNees had 21 points, eight assists and three steals for Shenango.

Ryan Graston added 15 points for the Wildcats, while Shawn DeJohn scored 14. Kyle Monceaux had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Ryan Ricketts led Western Beaver with 23 points, while Justin Linder scored 20 and Jon D'Angelo had 16.
