Melewski, big second quarter key for Canfield
NILES -- Kyle Melewski scored 19 points, and Canfield High outscored Niles 21-11 in the second quarter to take control of the Metro Athletic Conference game Friday night, in which the Cardinals won, 63-54.
Mike Rounsavall added 12 points for the Cardinals (9-3, 5-2 MAC), who led 33-22 at halftime.
Bill Frech scored 19 points to lead Niles (7-6, 3-4). Andrew Cleary added 16 points and Sean Cleary scored 10.
Salem 53, Howland 48
SALEM -- Ryan Benchwick scored 16 points for Salem.
The Quakers (5-7, 3-4 MAC) also received double-figure scoring by Jarin Heath and Tommy Jesko, with 15 each. Heath also finished with seven rebounds and six assists. Adam Hickey had three steals.
Howland (4-9, 1-6) was led by David Kennedy and Ryan Johnson, who scored 14 points each. Dario Hadzovic added nine points and six rebounds. Johnson also had six rebounds and four steals, and Jared Bartholomew had seven rebounds and four assists.
Campbell 61, Struthers 43
CAMPBELL -- Campbell (9-4) jumped out to a 22-11 lead after the first quarter and finished with an 18-6 advantage in the fourth period.
Terrance Phillips led the Red Devils with 17 points, and Trey Soares added 15. Louie Samonas scored 11 in the victory.
Dave Mathews tossed in 15 points for Struthers (3-9), which outscored Campbell 26-21 in the middle two quarters. Alan Daniels added eight points for the Wildcats.
