MAC ROUNDUP WMU gets to 6-0 in league

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Ben Reed scored a game-high 27 points, and Western Michigan extended the nation's second-longest home winning streak to 25 with a 67-60 victory over Northern Illinois.

Reed hit a career-high seven 3-pointers as Western Michigan (13-3, 6-0) remained the only unbeaten team in league play.

Anthony Maestranzi, playing with a severe ankle sprain, led Northern Illinois (6-9, 2-5) with 15 points. He hit five of the Huskies' 12 3-point baskets, marking the fifth time this season the team has had 10 or more 3-pointers.

Miami (Ohio) 83, E. Michigan 73

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Doug Penno came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points and William Hatcher had 15 for Miami of Ohio.

Danny Horace added 14 points for the Redhawks (9-5, 4-2 Mid-American), who are off to their best start since the 1998-99 squad went 12-3.

Markus Austin scored a season-high 33 points and Michael Ross added 13 for the Eagles (9-7, 3-4).

Akron 65, Marshall 55

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Darryl Peterson scored 15 points to lead Akron. Bubba Walther also scored 13 points, all in the first half, for Akron (10-5, 4-3).

Marshall (3-12, 0-6 MAC) was led by Enoch Bunch and A.W. Hamilton with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Ohio 74, Cent. Michigan 54

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Jeremy Fears had 15 points for Ohio.

Sonny Troutman added 14 points and Mychal Green scored 12 for the Bobcats (8-6, 3-3), who had 13 steals.

Kevin Nelson led the Chippewas (7-8, 2-5) with 14 points.

Kent St. 85, Buffalo 80, OT

KENT -- Jason Edwin scored 18 points and Kevin Warzynski had six of his 13 points in overtime to lead Kent State to an 85-80 victory over Buffalo.

Scott Cutley also had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Flashes (12-6, 4-3), who forced 19 turnovers.

Turner Battle led Buffalo (10-5, 3-4) with 25 points.
